Hello Ladies !I’ve received a number of inquiries regarding how to create a natural hair care routine and my personal routine, in that light I wanted to share some of the things I do to achieve soft manageable, healthy hair. Remember that everyone’s hair is different, my routine/products might not work for your hair but you can take some tips and create a routine for yourself. The essential aspect of creating a routine is making sure your hair is moisturized and well conditioned. I have listed what I do and how I do it. If you have any additional questions or comments don’t forget to leave them in the comments section!I wash my hair weekly if it is not in a protective style and doing this, I deep condition along with it: Before I wash my hair, I do a Pre-Poo treatment, this is warming up an oil of your choice (coconut or avocado oil is ideal) and applying to dry hair overnight. This added step, softens and prepares the hair for the cleansing process. It also gives the hair added shine and strength. You can use this time to detangle your hair. I highly recommend finger detangling. Combs and brushes are harsh on the hair and tends to damage it. My Pre-poo (before wash) regimen — I use either coconut or avocado oil – Boil water and pour in a bowl (be careful!), Sit applicator bottle filled with oil in this bowl. – Once oil in the bottle warms up, it’s ready to be used – section hair into manageable parts – apply coconut oil, finger detangle each section. (I use trader joes Organic Coconut Oil) – twist each section – cover hair with plastic cap and keep it overnight To avoid any oil leakage, tie a silk scarf over the plastic capWash Day — Wash hair in sections and twists, this helps to prevent tangles. Any co-wash or moisturizing sulfate free shampoo will work well Three of my favorites are the SheaMoisture Community Commerce Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo , EDEN BodyWorks Coconut Shea Cleansing CoWash and the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Replenishing Shampoo – Keep the hair in sections and wash concentrating on the scalp – Rinse out any lather – Depending on the needs of my hair, I can switch between the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Masque for Moisture, a DIY Protein Treatment Masque for strength, Shea Moisture Purification Masque for Anti Itch/Dandruff or SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Intensive Deep Conditioners

Strengthening Masque -Apply the conditioner mix to the sections and cover it with a plastic cap – This is a good time to apply heat; if a steamer isn’t available try heated caps such (hair therapy wrap ) and (Hot Head Thermal Hair care). All under $30, I have the hair therapy wrap and it’s pretty effective. – I normally deep condition for at least 60 minutes – Wash out deep conditionerDeep Conditioners– As an added step, I rinse with 1 part of Apple Cider Vinegarand 3 parts of water, I dont do this weekly, more like every other week. This is an optional step – Rinse out the acv with cold water! Yess, just the thought of it makes me cold but the cold water closes the cuticles of the hair thereby keeping in the conditioner and hydration. – Pat your hair with a cotton t-shirt (no towels please) to dry. Towels rub against the hair causing damage. #aintnobodygottimeforthatMoisturizing – – I seal the moisture from the water/leave in with oil, you can use any oil of your choice (I use my oil mix or avocado oil) – at this point slather your leave in/detangler (I switch between rose water, Shea butter cottage Argan and Rooibos leave in and giovanni direct leave in) and detangle – I double seal with Jamaican black castor oil, especially at the ends of my hair to prevent breakage and split ends. – Any styler of choice can be used, For example, if I am going to install twists and I dont want any hold I go ahead and do this, If I want a strong hold or for perm or flexi rod sets, I use a botanical gel (eco styler, obia curl enhancing custard, Alikay Naturals Hair Curling Custard (aka creme brulee can be used)Few Tips – During the week if my hair feels dry, I spritz it with water and seal with oil – I massage my scalp often with Jamaican black castor oil (JBCO) to stimulate growth. – I don’t comb my hair, I finger detangle gently, mostly with a product or water. Damp hair is easier to manage than dry hair. Dry hair is prone to breakage, especially if a comb is used.Monthly Treatments: – I am incorporating Monthly Henna Treatments to my hair for added strength, shine and potential lighter/darker hair color. (Will document this process soon)Continuous practice of this routine results in soft, manageable, healthy hairTry it and let me know your experiences.Be Blessed!Comments –
